Skype offers July 4th special pricing

Get in on some Skype action for a reduced price during the July 4th special pricing time. The ever so useful SkypeOut plan (regularly priced at $25) is available for a reduced price of $15.

- SkypeOut 25$ – Special Price: 14.99$

- SkypeIn 15$ (3months) – Special Price: 9.99$
- Skypein 50$ (12months) – Special Price: 39.99$

- Skype Voicemail 15$ (12months) – Special Price: 9.99$

Speaking of Skype, has anyone managed to roll the VOIP service into their daily schedule as a "regular" tool for communication over the internet? I have a year-long SkypeOut account but rarely find myself even opening the program, let alone use it.

My skype-in number effectively replaced my landline and its the one I give to the bill places. I like reserving my cell phone number for just work and family. I also use skype out for all of my long distance calling. Call problems are relatively rare and are almost always resolved with a second attempt. The only thing I have had trouble with is navigating phone trees.

This setup has worked rather well. Either the change of number or the way it is listed has drastically reduced my call volume. I have Skype up and running at both home and work which works out well for the occasional call and I like being able to mute my home phone at night. The only cordless solution I have tried so far is the Cisco/Linksys iPhone which requires my Windows machine be on. Usually I just use USB headsets which is somewhat limiting.

This spring I jetisoned the landline for my home-based business and one of the landlines for my home. (We kept one since we are using DSL). Replacing them with seperate Skype In/Out lines. In the house we are using Netgears cordless Skype phone (SPH200). In my office I am using a Linksys headset. The only problem is using my office line via my computer when someone else on my WiFi network is moving large files. The Netgear phone in the house doesn’t seem to have that problem. Also, with the Netgear phone you can add extensions. I have been VERY pleased. My company is now totally on my laptop (using an email based fax, editing PDF’s and Skype line). Now I can be anywhere. Just need internet access.

Using Skype has reduced our mobile minutes used every month AND I do not pay any taxes (or they are rolled in and small) for the Skype versus all the darn taxes that were on the bottom of EVERY long distance bill regardless if I used it or not that month.

Bottom line: Reduced costs. Increased flexibility and mobility. Very pleased.

Skype has become a very integral part of my communications. With my girlfriend traveling abroad in Spain, it is the easiest and cheapest way of communicating. Also when I approach my limit on minutes each month on my cellphone, Skype comes to the rescue with my unlimited SkypeOut plan. I’m very happy with their service.
