MacTV: Introducing Lisa

In 1978 Apple begun The “Lisa project” to design a personal computer that was powerful as well as had a graphical user interface. Available for Apples famous $9,995 price point (Which is $20,893 today figuring inflation), The Lisa was an acronym for Local Integrated Software Architecture. However is was long rumored that it was named after Steve Job’s daughter.

Here is a copy of a vintage introductory video os what the Apple Lisa was all about. As always feel free to embed the above video.

    it’s so beautiful

    i can’t look away

  • Kimbakat

When was the Lisa available to the public? Exactly what year was this shot?

  • Kimbakat

Actually, $10,000 back then is more like $30,000. You could buy a new car for $6,000!!! Mazda sold a new truck for just $5795 back in 1979. Slice of Pizza was 75¢ in NYC. Now it’s $2.50. So everything is about 3x-5x times.

  • Kimbakat

yet..no one (of blue collar) or even upper middle class is making 3x. In fact, my mothers salary back in 1978 was about $5,000 less than what I started making in NYC in 1993. Now, my job (which I worked and earned a degree), is worthless as my job was outsourced to India. I feel sorry for college students today. It’s gonna get worse. We produce nothing and even jobs which don’t produce anything (computer jobs) are still getting outsourced.

Is it me or is the business guy in this video a pompous ass?

Here’s a 1984 demonstration by Al Diblasi (with modern intro) regarding the Lisa – he gives a good background on it:
