Etchit: ADAFruit Laser Etches All Your Gizmo’s (iPhones Too)

Feeling lost in a crowd with my generic looking iPhone I cautiously decided it was time to void the warranty. I reached out to Phillip Torrone, one of the minds behind ADAFruit, to have my expensive toy phone go under the laser beam and get a little tramp stamp tattoo.

Pictured above is the end result, of what we think is the first engraved iPhone. Isn’t it adorable?

If you are in NYC and feeling adventurous drop Phillip and the gang an line at laser@adafruit.com or via their website. Typical small device etching costs $30, while larger items cost $100. Tell them that Dan sent you.

    Those laser etching machines are not so cheap,man, so they have to charge to recover costs before they even make money on it.

    Plastic ? I thought it was ceramic, a “radio-transparent” material. The back of the iPhone feels very resistant for plastic so I’m not sure…

    It’s possible that it’s aluminized plastic like some parts of the the Macbook Pros and Powerbooks.
