Windows Vista SP1 – The second coming

Windows Vista rejoice knowing that SP1 (the "second coming") is just around the corner and will be made available via Microsoft Software Updater – ergh whatever it is called.

Microsoft Downloads can never keep a good secret, always spilling the beans no matter how many times you point at it (keep it up team!). After all the lies Microsoft had to endure to keep Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (otherwise known as the Second Coming) a forbidden secret, it has been officially confirmed (again) by no other than Microsoft itself. Take that Sinofsky.

A download published only a few hours ago, “Windows Automated Installation Kit Documentation (Windows Server code named “Longhorn” & Windows Vista SP1 Beta 3)“, clearly describes the existence of SP1 not only once, but twice. Here’s proof, just in case it is taken down just as fast as it was published.

On a more personal note, I’ve warmed up to Vista considerably since it’s launch. I can’t say I’ve booted the operating system in a number of weeks, but from what I’ve gathered about the OS, there are pros that may very well outweigh the cons. Have you warmed up to Vista yet?

    yeah im with vista from more then a month now (vista ultimate btw) have a few problems, but who dosent have with all the OSs? I’m happy with my vista so far :)

    I’ve warmed up to Visa too. Spending more and more time in it. Can’t commit to BootCamp yet so it sits happily in Parallels

    Most my problems with vista were acer’s fault though there are a few minor things i’ve not yet figured out. I like it but it did take a little tweaking to get it how i want it (5 months).

    I just cant use Windows anymore. Ive used it since 3.1 when I was little, and after using OSX for just one year I can never see myself using Windows again, unless forced to.

    Hmm, I’m using Vista in Bootcamp on my 2ghz macbook (Bought it of course two weeks before they were upgraded). I’m wondering is Parallels is worth the investment? The rebooting each time is getting much more painful than I originally thought it would be. Vista works great, but would running both OS’s at once be too taxing? I will be upgrading to 2gb RAM from 1gb shortly.

    I prefer to stick to my Linux but I do use Vista, grudgingly as it’s Windoze, on our home desktop and to be honest it’s not horrible. It’s just not that good. It is usable however.

    Still though, power to Mac and Linux.

    Hmm . . . I will go against the grain here and say that I moved away from Vista to Linux just recently. Vista was okay in most respects but what really killed it for me was the inability to disable disk indexing. I know it’s necessary for the new search functionality to work best, but it insists on thrashing my HDD when I’m not using it. This would be okay except my computer is in my bedroom, and I can’t sleep with that disk noise. (Yes, I know I am a bad person for not just turning it off at night, but I have my reasons.) Anyway, I like my sleep, so Vista had to go. Took me a weekend of work to get Kubuntu Feisty set up just the way I like it, but I love it now. For those few must-have apps, XP runs at full speed using kernel-based virtualization (kvm).

    No problems with Vista on my computer…

    Yi, I too had a problem with Acer & Vista (although it wasn’t on my machine). Loading Vista onto my brother’s Acer TravelMate 4500 I couldn’t get the operating system to detect that it was a laptop so I got no battery meter.

    In fact, the battery showed up as an unknown device. A bit of researched turned out it was a problem mostly Acer specific–although there were a few other laptops out there with the same problem. Both Acer and Microsoft haven’t made any drivers or updates regarding the issue and from what I read this has been an issue since the early betas.

    Its sad really all these awesome new gaming pc’s forced to run such a poor slow operating system (Vista) I wish The games would all move to mac os x and Steve Jobs start supporting gaming on his machines. All is needed is support for better graphics
