The Day the Music Died

Internet radio broadcasters (Including Yahoo, MTV and Pandora) today held a day of silence in protest against new legislation which could put some of the smaller internet stations out of business.

Those involved in the protest say that the new plan could cost them around $1bn in administration fees.

Charges per song and per user will apply (and increase) until 2010, in addition to a $500 fee for every channel owned by a station.

    Well, now we know they’re desperate. The recording industry is looking for money that they’re losing from declining sales. Instead of fixing the root of the problem, they go after the symptoms. I mean, why promote originality if it cuts into your short term profit margins, right?

    Craaaaaap. This applies to Shoutcast-type things, too? I know the fee used to be much lower, as I was looking into starting one myself. This sucks.
