Man is finally faster than the horse

Here’s something I can most certainly guarantee you can’t do. Chad Johnson, runner / football player, beat a horse from a standstill to a full blown 1/8 mile sprint. Take that you four legged pure bred behemoth!

The horse broke clean from the gates and bore down at full sprint upon the finish line, 1/8 of a mile in the distance.

But the horse didn’t have a chance. The human being in the other lane, Chad Johnson, took off with a 100-meter head start and raced to the pole, winning by several lengths in his maiden turf start today.

The estimated crowd of 8,000 at River Downs roared its approval for Johnson, the Bengals wide receiver who said his runaway win would jump start his side career in doing sporting stunts for charity.

“Floyd Mayweather, you’re next,” Johnson said. “I want to fight you. I’d like to take Kobe and LeBron one-on-one. Jeff Gordon, we can take a couple laps.”

Johnson’s victory against the horse known as Restore the Roar legitimized the pre-race predictions Johnson made from the paddock.

“Look at him over there,” Johnson said pointing to Restore the Roar, dancing about on his way to the track. “This is how DBs feel before the game. He’s antsy. He’s nervous.”

Anyhow, back to earth. I’m kind of disappointed in the horse. I can understand a slow start but come on! You’re bred to run!

    1/8 of a mile = 200 meters, therefore the guy started over half way down the track .. I would be happy for someone to explain how that qualifies as a win?? :-)

    Well you see, since it is impossible for a horse to run on two legs, and quite impossible for a human to run quickly on four, Chad gets to run half the distance (since he has half the legs.) Thus making a horse @ 200m essentially the same as a human @ 100m.

    Well a human can use their arms to balance as they run, which a horse cannot. Tis stupid, plain and simple.

    Balance != speed The horse has 4 (count ‘em four) points of balance on the ground, we only have two which is why we have to balance ourselves with arms since we walk upright.

    This is like the old days when the first machine to hammer in rail road spikes was created. The challenge was for a man to hammer in 3 spikes, while the machine hammered in 1. The man completed 2 and a half spikes before the machine finished its 1. However the man still lost because the the machine hammering in 1 spike (even at three times the time) was an improvement over manual labor.

    We all know a horse is ALWAYS faster than a man, but just how much faster? This race proves that Chad is at least half as fast as a horse over this track length. The feat is still impressive, why don’t you race a horse and see how much slower you are, then make a comment about it.

    Hey I beat my dog in a run.
    I tied him to his yard post and then i took off down the street, that slow bastard didn’t even make it past the lawn and it still took me 2 minutes to reach the stop sign.

    Well, in long distance, humans can certainly outrun horses, you know. A human can build up much more endurance for long races than horses. I guess it’s not technically speed, in that case, but the human would win the race. That is how wild horses could be caught after all (intact for work, that is).
