How to Unpair your Apple Remote (When You Lost It)

Lost your Apple remote, despite the fact that your paired it with your AppleTV or computer? Here is how you unpair it with another remote.

Use any Apple Remote to unpair Apple TV and hold down the Menu and Previous/Rewind buttons for 6 seconds.

Your machine will then be unpaired from the old remote.

a lot of people had macbooks in the dorms so we’d go from room to room and point our remotes in and change the song, turn the volume up really loud or open Frontrow… well after that they learned how to pair the remote. thank you for this lil unpair trick ;) hehe

The remote pairing on Apple TV is odd.

Remotes that are paired with my MacBook Pro and iPod Hi-Fi are fine when they are paired.

But when I paired the Apple TV one, it affects the MacBook Pro, and I have removed it completely from the room.

Its weird.

To fix your problem, you need to ‘pair” the remote that came with your computer with your computer. Open System Prefs, click on Security, and you’ll see a pair button on the bottom right. Click it and follow instructions.

Once you pair it, the Apple TV remote will not effect your Macbook. Only one remote can be paired to a computer.
