US Navy’s Coronado, CA base

US NAvy Base

US Navy Coronado, CA base as viewed from Google Maps
. When architects design a building, is there any thought as to what it may look like from the sky?

Hah. Fun stuff. Imagine if it was a French army base.

I do not think this is part of the Navy base, too far south… This is closer to Imperial beach and the public docks.

Good lord. Are we so sensitive about the Holocaust that now anything resembling a swastika immediately offends us? Yes, it was a horrible tragedy, but being offended by a symbol doesn’t do justice to history. Oh, and by the way, the swastika has other legitimate uses and is used in many other traditions besides Nazism. But you probably knew that.

No, architects shouldn’t have to care what buildings look like from the sky, because it doesn’t really matter.

Something else for the conspiracy nuts to grab on to and use to death…

This was on digg months ago. If you zoom out one level you will see that there are other buildings shaped like bombers about to attack the swastika. Yes, this was a design choice. No, it was not a pro-Nazi statement.

I believe, a sight-plan as well as floor-plan would have shown the shape, since that is a straight-down view.

Also, I know some architects have their buildings made as a 3d model on the computer, makes it easy for the client to see it rather then on paper. If that is done, someone rotating the 3d view might be able to notice that, but the thing is usually that is only done with houses, and not office buildings (if that is what it is). I know making 3d models for architect firms is one of the things I want to do for a career.

The swastica is a much older symbol then the nazi party.

I’d be curious to know when the building was constructed? I’d be curious if the building was constructed pre WWII. The Egyptions (I think) used it as a symbol of power. Perfect for a military.
