State Troopers will pull you over in a semi

Talk about an undercover vehicle that is hard to miss, State Troopers are hiding their gear and eagle eyes behind the wheels of big-rig semi-trucks. That next 18-wheeler you see rolling down the highway may actually be waiting to hand you a ticket.

They’re easily labeled as the bad boys of the highway.

Involved in some of the most notorious and fiery wrecks, these 18-wheel hulks of machinery dominate the roads, frightening drivers who don’t want to be flattened.

But law enforcement isn’t ready to fit large trucks with a black hat. Police say passenger cars share a lot of the blame for crashes.

“A lot of them don’t respect the 18-wheeler,” said Trooper Brian Grunder of the Kansas Highway Patrol.

It’s the reason Kansas troopers are working undercover from truck cabs.

Using a 60-foot-long gleaming white Volvo semitrailer, troopers this week have been patrolling Kansas City area highways watching how you drive.

Speaking of under-cover State Troopers, what’s vehicles you have seen on the highway pulling over speeding drivers? Personally, I’ve seen lowered Volvo’s, heavily tinted SUVs, and unmarked BMW motorcycles. What have you seen?

    Not undercover, but here in CA i’ve seen a few Camero police cars, minimally marked and they have those low profile lights on top that are like 2 inches thick so you would never see it in your rearview.

    i live in chicago and i’ve seen camaro, old monte carlo, mustang, charger, suvs (chevy & ford)
    all these cars are tinted with strobes on the inside and have a regular license plate.

    Like Brandon, I’m in California. Undercover CHP are, as far as I know, either illegal or very rarely used. But I have seen the Camaro Interceptors, which have plain white hoods and trunks, so not to be recognized when they’re either coming up behind you, or you’re moving up on them.

    Also in California, I’ve seen my fair share of minimally marked CHP cars, including the Camaros and the pure white Crown Vics. Lately, the local PDs have been buying Dodge Chargers and painting them pure black (looks pretty badass with the tinted windows and standard issue black rims). The weirdest unmarked car I’ve seen was a late 70′s model Dodge van. I drove past it once when it had pulled someone over, and my first thought was that it was an impostor trying to con someone, but it looked pretty legit when I slowed down. Then again, how accurate can I be going a “slow” 55 mph?
