Obopay, an alternative for PayPal?
Earlier today after requesting access to a special Wireless Village, I was introduced to an online web payments / transferring service known as Obopay. Similar to the popular PayPal service, Obopay allows users to send and receive money with much emphasis on the idea of mobile payments.
In contrast to PayPal’s mandatory transaction fees, Obopay saves its users a considerable amount of pocket change with the only fee requirements being 10 cents each time you send money and no fees for receiving. Right away, the allure and value of PayPal soon diminishes. Feel free to check the fees page for more info on the "hidden" charges (which are much easier to stomach compared to any other web payments system).
Obopay even offers a unique mobile application that you can download directly to your phone to manage, send, and receive payments. Obopay has partnered up with Citi, AOL, Cellular South, Helio, and AMP’d Mobile. Referrals receive $5.00 free as an incentive for signing up so feel free to drop your comment if you would like to receive an invite. Warning: Because Obopay endorses the use of mobile phones, new users are required to verify their accounts using their mobile phone number.
