All love, 84-yr. old weds 22-yr. old

Whenever you hear stories about men older enough to be great great grandparents marrying women fresh out of college, you have to scratch your head in bewilderment. The same goes for 84-yr. women marrying 22-yr. old men. Something just doesn’t "jive".

Inside Adolph’s Tavern, a narrow slice of a bar on Main Street, the Bud Light is flowing — as are the debates about the 62-year age difference between bride and groom.

“Good for him. Joe Hardy deserves to be happy, especially for all he has helped Fayette County,” bar owner Tanya King said. “Age means nothing. Everyone has a heart.”

But on the next bar stool, her husband, Andy, groans about the third marriage of Mr. Hardy, founder of 84 Lumber who developed Nemacolin Woodlands and Resort.

“It’s a big joke. You have money and you can afford to buy people.”

It’s all about the love in these types of relationships, never about the Benjamin’s.

She’s pretty cute, can’t blame him. He actually looks pretty good for 84. Hopefully he was smart enough to get a prenup signed.

I don’t see what’s wrong with this. Seriously, I don’t. We all look for characteristics in our partners that make them suitable mates for offspring. Even if we have convinced our conscious minds that we don’t want kids, we still look for a partner that will be a suitable parent. For women we look at hip/waist ratio, breast size, symmetry in figure, fitness because those factors are important in childbearing. In men, the above are not as important, but the ability to produce, ability to provide, ability to protect are often more sought out. If she has a child with this guy, or the local pretty boy, the child she has with the 84 year old rich guy will have a far greater chance at going to a good college, and having a better life in general. Survival of the fittest doesn’t just apply to monkeys.
