The Olympics in Chicago 2016

2016 sure feels like a long way away but you can bet preparations are well under way as Chicago anticipates a wave of international athletes, visitors, and fans hop skipping to the city.

Find out more information about Chicago [Olympics] 2016 on the official Chicago2016.org website.

On April 14, 2007, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) announced that Chicago has won the right to represent the United States in the effort to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Thanks to you, the citizens of Chicago, the United States, and the world, for your enthusiastic support of the Chicago bid and the Olympic Movement!

As we begin the international phase of the competition, there is much hard work to be done. We’ll need your continued support, pride, hospitality, and can-do spirit to be successful.

I will probably make plans to visit the Windy City – even if it isn’t for the actual Games. I can’t even begin to imagine some of the marvelous architectural masterpieces that will go up because of the Games.

    Chicago to represent the US?

    good luck…

FYI, Chicago will just be the entry from the U.S., as the International Olympic Committee still gets to decide which among all world cities hosts the actual olympics.

Chicago is great. Beautiful lake front areas. It will be awesome. Kind of reminds me of the book Devil in the White City.

You make it sound as if Chicago is definitely going to be the 2016 host city. It’s just one of several cities around the world that will vie for the spot.

It would be pretty cool if Chicago was selected though!

    Olympics in Chicago????
Yeah, it’s a great idea…but is it realistic…The fuss is not about how beautiful the city is and the amount of diversity it will bring to our communities…it’s about the amount of money will be brought in by tourist…yet where does it leave those residents that reside near lake michigan that are not middle class or better…no one has though of that, those communities will not see a portion of that money because they won’t be around to see it because no working class family wants to live next door to poor black families…the olympics will only provide temporary jobs for those residents… but the olmpic bogards there community and the residents are pushed to another distric with worst conditions and politicians…

As a lifelong resident of Chicago, I agree with SHARITKA4. This is more about forcing working class Black families out of a neighborhood targeted for development by Daley and his ilk. Chicago has major problems that need to be addressed now. We dont need an overpriced party ten years from now.
