Yahoo offers unlimited email storage, does anyone care?

The news around the net surrounds the topic of Yahoo announcing their unlimited email storage plans which coincide with the soon to be released Apple iPhone. Unlimited Yahoo email translates into unlimited email for your shiny iPhone whenever those are released.

Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone cares. Do any of our readers? With email services offering users seemingly endless amounts of disk space for email – Gmail surely to follow – I believe service providers need to begin looking at other means to attract customers.

It’s time to step up to the plate and offer customers something that will really make them jump ship from their current email service provider. Google? Are you listening? Maybe it’s time to offer that IMAP support that current users have been dreaming about for months and months.

I’m sorry, but the only image I associate with @yahoo.com email addresses is that of SPAM and pharmaceutical advertisements.

Well, to me it seems the first boundary to break down is the concern about storage, which is already sorted out in Gmail, which I also prefer. I have no idea what other boundaries are there though!

  • Myke

Yeah I could care less. I am completely happy with Gmail. Im never worried about running out of space. And the ads are seldom as well.

Gmail has been out for so long already with their “massive” amounts of space for people, I dont need another new email, Gmail handles everything very easily. Storage as a marketing strat… well that doesn’t concern me anymore.

    myke:

    so you care?

    To CYNIC821:

I’m just going to guess to you are a cynic, huh? (It is even in your name.)

Ans, obviously, he cares. He even said so. (You have to love clichés.)

  • Myke

    @ Cynic: CouldNT care less.

Honestly, this is about 5 years too late. Now if Gmail could only provide full IMAP functionality, that would knock me away.

All those people who had yahoo accounts before gmail came around (and didn’t want to bother switching) are probably happy.

    But… I too don’t care.

I care. I’m going to go back to the Yahoo acc’t that I haven’t used since college (about seven years) and turn off the SPAM filtering. After that I’ll wait around for another seven years, then check back to see how many gig’s it’s up to.

I too am praying for IMAP on Gmail. Please, pretty please!!!

Gmail with it’s 10,5GB of storage and easy search options + my own domain (atleast for its paid service) still suits me the best.

    2.5GB – 10.5GB – Unlimited, doesn’t matter.. as I only have 2GB of mail anyway

    Gmail for prez! :D

I want user-configurable spam filters in Gmail. Too much spam is bypassing the filter and ending up in my inbox. I’d rather opt for stronger filters with the risk of losing some email. IMAP would be nice too.
