The MatteBook

mattebook.jpg

At UNEASYcentral we use all Mac hardware (but we split our time in both the MacOS and Windows), and for the past few days instead of working on my MacBook Pro, I have been kicking it with a MacBook. The MacBook is an extremely solid machine, but the glossy screen is simply driving me mad. Obviously other users are perturbed by it as well.

An enterprising user at MacRumors decided to replace the MacBooks glossy screen with a replacement display from a Sony 13.3″ widescreen laptop, knowing the panel was an exact replacement, cables, screws, etc, so no modification would be necessary to install the panel.

But be warned this is not for the faint of heart, the user found the MacBook to be one of the trickiest laptops he has had to take apart, and as usual this WILL void your warranty.

I dont have a problem with the glossy screen, and the edges on my Macbook aren’t THAT sharp.

Though, this is a C2D macbook – I heard bad things about the first revision, so maybe apple are aware of it :)

    mac sux bigtime :D
see.. you pay a lot of money for the design, then you pay more money to make it useable..
then you face the 1year lifetime, then you pay yet more money to keep it alive, or you may get a brand new shiny one.. then the sony screen.. then.. :D

As an Apple guardian I must disagree with Dov, A Sony Vaio C Series comes with exactly the same features that any MB excepting the 160 hard drive (Black MB comes with 120) and you can find it in Best Buy for $1699 and the Black MacBook just for $1499. I don’t think that the HDD is worth more than 200 bucks.

“then you face the 1year lifetime, then you pay yet more money to keep it alive”

Give me a break! I have a MacBook Pro that’s 1 and a half year old and it is running perfectly well.
