Howto: Disable Annoying Intellitxt Links

zz3a119d6d.jpg

I sincerely despise Intellitxt stuffed blogs. The technology is annoying, disruptive, and unattractive – time to disable it. There are a few ways that I know of to accomplish this. If you are using Firefox you can simply download an extension that will disable those popups. But for IE users you can take it a step further and disable Intellitxt on your systems HOSTS level, but since Intellitxt is using custom domain names for all their advertisers this can be quite a chore since the HOSTS file does not accept wildcard characters. Other users have suggested that you just disable scripting in IE, but I can imagine that would make a less then pleasurable browsing experience.

Anybody else have any tips that they would care to share?

If you’re using firefox you can just used AdBlock to get rid of these annoyances. Block the intellilink with this filter:

    http://*.intellitxt.com*

Others can be blocked in a very similar way

Mmmmm…. I’m trying to figure out how to block it on Safari and IE Connor

Off topic a bit, but I can’t figure this out. When I click on “Install this script” after the countdown, clicking “Install” has no effect. This happens on every GM script I try to install. BTW, yes, I have GreaseMonkey installed.

    Thanks!

    For Internet Explorer, very easy.
IE:Internet Options; Security tab; click Restricted globe; click Sites…
    enter sites like this:
    *.intellitxt.com
    *.kontera.com
    *.doubleclick.com
    *.doubleclick.net
    etc.

You will not see the ads because adding to Resticted zone prevents the javascript from running. Also no cookies can be set, etc.
    Works great.
