The AppleTV’s are being prepped to ship? Signs point to YES!

Chris – I got about a dozen emails that Apple has started charging cards, including mine.

Dan, a short note on “It is Apple’s practice NOT to charge credit cards until a product has entered the “ship preparation” phase” — that’s the governments practice, not just Apple’s. =) From what I’ve experienced in working with companies that sell physical objects over the internet, it’s fairly illegal to charge a customer for a product until the day that it is due to ship.

Then we have even more proof!

- 10.4.9 on Monday
- iTunes 7.1 on Monday
- TV on Tuesday

No, what it means is that pre-orders are shipping, as planned, in February, and in-store delveries will take place in March. Due to te unexpectedly high orders for the aTV, pre-orders are being fulfilled first. Simple. OK?

ok… I still don’t see the point of this. Pretty much it’s just letting you stream your content to the tele right? What benefits are Apple trying to add to the game here?

until this is made to allow you to use content from quicktime etc, theres no way im gonna encode all my media to itunes friendly formats. When the hacks emerge to use vlc and the likes ill consider it

What would be sooo nice, is some sort of networked VLC front-end (although, I guess there would have to be some sort of back-end too, for communication with the server side). The current web-interface/constant-streaming/lame-ass-playlist and over-all-awkwardness is not very useful.

yeah, i’m just gunna use a homebuilt DVR with an old pc, and that way be able to use all my vids and rip dvd’s. Cheaper, and more customizable, what’s the benefit of iTV, or whatever it’s being called?
