Portraits of numbers – Artistic statistics

Portraing of numbers

Chris Jordan’s amazing art pieces shed true light numbers as statistics. The art pieces are giant mosaics created using smaller elements. Take the detailed capture of Jordan’s Cans Seurat (an obvious adaptation of Seurat’s Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte). The image uses 106,000 aluminum cans – which represent the number of cans used in the US every 30 seconds. I recommend checking out the rest of the examples including Office Paper which uses 30,000 reams of office paper (or 15 millions sheets) – equivelant to the amount of office papers used in the US every 5 minutes.

So does he actually have all those cans and stuff? Or does he photoshop that?

  • Tim

    Those are impressive.

Somehow I get the impression that he didn’t get $12.5 million for the Iraq war poster. It is photoshopped or something similar.
