BREAKING: Nintendo Mans Up

After much ado about the Nintendo Wii Strap issues and various rumors of recalls and replacements Nintendo has finally manned up.

I noticed my Wii Ominiously glowing becconing my attention from accross the apartment just a few short minutes ago and thought “Hmm either a new channel has just been released, or Adam is sending me more pictures of his Testies wearing Sun Glass and fake Lips”. Of course with those 2 immediate options popping to mind I had to fire it up and see who had sent me a message. Well it was Nintendo with the following message.

Nintendo

Wii Remote Wrist Strap

We hope you are enjoying your Wii Console.

Nintendo has received some reports that when consumers swing the Wii Remote with the origional version of the wrist-strap using excessive force and accidently let go, the cord connectin the controller to the wrist can break. Nintendo has made a new version of the Wii Remote wrist strap available to replace the origional one used in early product shipments.

Please Call (800) 859-4519 or visit http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp to determine if you need to replace your wrist strap.

Thank You!

So I guess that settles it… Nintendo is officially acknowledging the defect on a large scale (all Wii owners with an internet connection) and also still blaming hyper active Wii players with being to active with the console.

    The way all the blogs and such have been saying it was that there wasn’t a problem and that people were just clumsy. What happened to that theory?

    The wrist straps work fine for us. It just wasn’t meant to be THROWN around.
    … And you weren’t meant to sweat.

    @THOMAS

    yea, but it’s so much fun that way :D

    Um…they started this program in december. Yes the email was just sent today. But the replacement program is very old news. I have the new straps from it on my 3 controllers. And they work great. Though white straps…..they are all starting to get dirty…And I have no idea how to clean them…I need black straps.

    “origional” ??? Someone spelled that wrong.

    @Eric

    Yea I remember them putting up the site but they didn’t clearly inform anyone about it’s existence … I had to find it via blogs who found it via fan boys… the point of this was that Nintendo was basically saying on a large scale “Hear ye Hear ye … thou straps art in fault” … in Old English :D

    If you genuinely require the wrist strap on a regular basis when playing your Wii, you probably shouldn’t be walking around without a helmet. My three year old can handle it just fine.

    Calling it “defective” is lame beyond all reason. Squeaky wheel and all that I guess….

    @Eric its clearly stated that the purpose of the post is to point out that they are e-mailing everyone.. So thanks for the pointless comment. on that note.. I haven’t gotten the e-mail
