Turn Your Disposible Camera into a Stun Gun

What do you get when you mix cheap high voltage generating device and bored kids? The above video. Please, please, please do not make this and go shocking the family pet (or actually anyone for that matter).

From the site:

[The video] shows how to turn a camera into a Taser (actually it’s not a ‘Taser’ per se, it’s a contact stun gun, but anyway) using the flash circuit of the camera–the flash bulbs in cameras are xenon strobe lights and they work the same way neon signs and fluorescent lights do: there’s a tube of gas with electric contacts at either end of the tube, and when electricity conducts through the gas, the gas excites and emits light. Here’s the key: all gases have a VERY high resistance and really don’t want to conduct electricity–think of trying to get electricity to go through piece of green wood, it’s do-able but would require a LOT of juice–therefore you have to use a very high voltage to force that electricity through the gas: Any camera with a flash MUST have a high-voltage generating circuit on board, which means any camera with a flash can be quickly and easily made into a stun-gun…

Actually, here’s a different way to use disposable cameras into shocking devices.

On most disposable cameras with a built in flash, there’s usually a whine right before the “flash is ready” light blinks on. What is this whine? The sound of a capacitor charging up. Since flash requires a power-yet-short burst of energy, most manufacturers use a capacitor to store the necessary energy since a single AA battery doesn’t have enough juice.

Now imagine if you took a whole bunch of these capacitors and hooked them up (in a parallel circuit) then used a powerful enough battery to charge all of the capacitors. With proper non-conductive and conductive structure, you’ve just created a charged shock stick (yes it actually looked like a stick when put together).

Fun times… and that was back in high school (which was 6~7 years ago).

i remember making these things, they don’t hurt that bad really…just leaves a little mark and sometimes the smell of burnt flesh
