So who’s going Vista this weekend?

Windows XP move over, there’s a new sheriff in town toting increased eye candy, security, and general system wide improvements. The name is Windows Vista (vistduh), and it ships in four different flavors [sure to confuse the average user].

So who’s upgrading? Who’s doing the remedial task of formatting the hardrive and loading Microsoft’s latest?

I admit I am. After much research and decision making, I’ve decided to order a legitimate copy of Windows Vista Home Premium. If you’re looking for a tax-free method of acquiring a copy of Vista, I recommend checking out Newegg. Check out Newegg’s “What Vista is right for you?” educator for an idea of what version suits your personal needs.

As soon as Vista Home Premium arrives, I’m loading it straight into Parallels to see what all the fuss is about concerning the latest DRM laden release of Windows. Are you going Vista?

    I’ll be getting Vista Business through work and installing it in Parallels.

    I do have one physical box running XP Media Center. That will not get upgraded as Business does not include Media Center (meaning I’d have to purchase Home Premium) plus my TV tuner isn’t, and probably never will be, compatible with Vista.

    BTW, that Newegg tool is great. Thanks for the tip.

    I have had Vista Ultimate for about a week or two now (OEM Version – thank you New Egg!) and It works great in Parallels so long as you DONT INSTALL THE TOOLS. You install Parallels tools – you are in for a world of hurt.

    I’ve been lucky eniough to have a legit copy since RTM, and as an OS I love it, and have had no problems. As a platform for games however, not so much. Of 36 games that I have tried, only 8 or so work without incident, and some will not even install. Granted, this is likely due to the OS no longer allowing root kits, and shifty security breaches to enable copy protection, but it still means that I have to dual boot if I want to play several titles.

    I will probably do it, but I’m up at school now and I usually don’t like changing my system during the semester.

    Does it have the SATA Drivers built in? If it does I’ll probably upgrade later on today. If not… I’ll have to sleep on it.

    I recently bought a PC from Best Buy and I can get a copy of Vista through the mail, and I will probably end up doing that.

    i personally will avoid vista, i’m happy with xp in parallels, but i’m more happy with tiger and hopefully with leopard.

    Yeah, like Matthew, my new laptop came with an offer to get Vista free. I’ll be getting it.

    Ha, I received my free copy of Vista Business through the mail the other day. I’m not sure if I’m ready to plunge into it though. Last time I used the Ultimate RTM, and had some major problems with my iPod and iTunes. I think I’m going to wait until Apple says iTunes officially supports Vista.

    Not me. I’m using XP, and I don’t think my machine has the resources to allow it to run well. But thanks for the Newegg link, and I’ll double check on that. Even so, I’ve got software that I use regularly, and do not want to find out that any of them won’t run on Vista, and I’m not too keen to get a DRM “overkill” machine, either. As always, with any Microsoft product, I’ll wait and let other people find the bugs first.

    I installed the Beta version, and wasnt overly impressed. That and only being able to make 2 re-installs (i think), before you have to buy another copy.

    been using the RTM version for over a month now and I’m pretty happy with it… some problems took a while to iron out, some problems are still around… but all-in-all, I like it much much much :)

    I got that free copy through powertogether.com also. I upgraded xp pro on my MBP thursday (I had run a beta or two of vista previously). “Pretty! ok, what now?!”

    I proceed to restart into osx and haven’t started it up again as of yet.

    Got a free OEM Vista UItimate from my hardware vendor for attending a MS Partner event. Pretty sweet deal. Now if I ever install will be another thing. Might just wait until the first service pack, as I wish I had done for XP.

    What really annoys me about Windows Vista, is that there are too many versions. Why can’t it be like Mac OS X? With 2 versions? (Server and the consumer build)

    I cannot see why I have to fork out US$100 (A lot more in Australia) for the ultimate upgrade to have data encryption, back-up utilities, Media Center features and Remote Desktop wizard.

    In my opinion, Vista can get f**ked!

    Crappy video, no HD (unless you’ve hacked it) SPDIFF not allowed, etc., etc., etc..

    ‘ve had a go and it works well enough but I’m going to wait fro SP2 when it becomes useable.Did the same for XP.

    My Windows XP installations work great, so I don’t see a need to go to Vista anytime soon. After all, I’ve got all the antivirus/ firewalls/ security software set up now, and other than eye candy, I don’t see any good reasons to spend the $$ and take the time to install. When I buy my next computer, I’ll get Vista. But not until.. just doesn’t seem worth the hassle.
