Scientists recreate 1918 flu virus deteriorates monkey lungs

Scientists exhume a dead body from Alaska and use tissue to recreate the lethal 1918 flu virus. Does hearing this make anyone else a little more worried of the idea of “biological warfare”?

Scientists who recreated “Spanish flu” – the 1918 virus which killed up to 50m people – have witnessed its remarkable killing power first hand. The lungs of infected monkeys were destroyed in just days as their immune systems went into overdrive after a Canadian laboratory rebuilt the virus.

Makes this stomach flu of mine feel like a tropical paradise.

    That blows.. but oh well we all die sometime. The earth is having trouble supporting the amount of people that are on it and the people are having trouble controlling themselves.. we’re going to have a population shrinking event soon.

    Many governments keep stockpiles of old viruses and new variations created in the lab in the hope that if any other nation uses the same strain, vaccine can be made very easily and there will already be experimental data on record. Nothing new.

    Sounds familiar… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReGenesis – The latter half of season 1 was about a Canadian scientist from the CDC who digs up a frozen body and rebuilds Spanish Flu! Spooky…
