Porn says no to Blu-ray, yes to HD DVD

For those who buy porn (who?), you’ll enjoy the fact that the adult entertainment industry – for the most part – has decided to use HD DVD over Blu-ray for their video delivery format of choice.

One of the big problems they have with Blu-ray is its expense, followed by its market share. “Blu-ray has superior quality, yes,” said a spokesperson for porn studio Bangbros, “but HD DVD is easier to produce, cheaper to produce and there are more HD DVD players in homes than there are Blu-ray players, for example in the Xbox 360.”

Pink Visual heavily complained about the fact that Blu-ray discs cannot be replicated and a range of other studios, who did not want to be mentioned by name indicated that the cost of going with Blu-ray cancels the technology as a possible HD solution for this industry. “Only bigger studios can afford Blu-ray, and even then it’s not economical,” we were told.

A most welcomed decision considering the costs of Blu-ray players over HD DVD alternatives. Now, get back to checking the share ratio on your torrents.

    I can’t help but point out that the fact that HD-DVD is in more home’s than Blu-Ray is because it was released earlier and integrated into Microsoft’s XBOX 360 earlier. The fact that Dell, Compaq, Apple, Sony and Hewlett Packard have decided to provide support for Blu-Ray before HD-DVD does not seem to work in Bangbros studio’s favour.

    ADDIQT:MEDIA, not sure where you’re getting your facts from, but HP is selling their high end laptop with an HD-DVD drive (seen here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_components.do#PERSONALIZATION ) with the phrase “Includes FREE HD DVD Movie. High-Definition DVD provides superior visual clarity and audio quality.”

    Don, confirmed. I actually just received a little snail mail spam from HP and noticed notebooks shipping with HD DVD.

    HD-DVD was not integrated into XBOX360 earlier. The drive in the 360 is a standard DVD, not an HD. There’s an HD-DVD add-on for 360 (an external drive). It was released in late November 2006, just like the PS3 (which has built-on blu-ray).
