Where was the Leopard stuff and iWork/iLife? This wasn’t MacWorld, it was iPod plus consumer electronics from Apple world.
http://www.jasonblogs.com Jason Schramm
I wish I had bought the Apple stock a few weeks ago. I’m also wondering if people will pay $500-600 for a phone, and that is with a 2-year Cingular contract. I was however interested in the WiFi support of the iPhone.
http://fernyb.net FernyB
I got to see video!
Rob
Cingular? Feh!

that ipod phone sounds awesome – an ipod with phone capabilities is a winner, rather than the other way around.
5 hours battery life though – surely not good enough for a full days use before charging?!
AppleTV sounds excellent, does anyone know if it will be able to stream from my linux server as well as machines (the server runs all the time – whereas the machines in our flat don’t).
Can’t wait to watch the video when it goes live!

Hows the iPhone???……………….Its BLOODY AMAZING !!!!
I have never seen an electronic device like this, not even in movies like,Minority Report.
Ladies and Gentlemen, The fiture is here.
I still havent got my breath back……
Whoa……..
Jason Cross
Immediately I’m trying to think of ways that I can justify my job buying the iPhone for me…
Daniel
He just revolutionized the Mobile phone industry, everyone’s playing catch up now
http://www.gettingnothingdone.com Josh Wilkins
I have to go with overall major disappointment. I phone rocked but look at the details.
No iLife upgrade – Picasa is starting to look better then iphoto
No 10.5 info or ship date
iphone is Cingular only – I have no problem caughing up 600 for a iphone but cingular service is way over priced and the nickle and dime you on every feature. As good as the phone is the true bill is going to double due to high rates at Cingular.
Wakebrd
I’d pay that much for a ipod phone that works! I’ve been holding out on getting the video ipod and now it’s going to pay off!
http://www.brentholloman.com crave10
sounds amazing except for the fact that its only 8GB, that disappointing.
ClaMs
The iPhone has been finally released. Hardware-wise I would have immagined that it would be a solid colour, silver, black or white. not a combination of black and silver. managed to foresee the no keypad thing. I didn’t think it would be so well implemented.
Software wise it was JUST as I had immagined. Brilliant!
But, ouch, the pricetag. $499 for the 8GB (you have to go for the 8Gb for just $100 more). And it will arrive in Europe in the 4th Q of this year??? NOOOOOOoooooooo
I want one now. Can’t wait to slide my fingers on one. How long do you think a crack t make it open for other carriers will surface?
http://steve.deadlycomputer.com steve
i would have liked a new stand alone iPod, i’m not a fan of all in one devices, id rather carry around 6 gadgets that did their jobs exceptionally, then one that did 6 jobs decently.
i also would have liked to see more OS X 10.5 news, such as some more of its features, and an actual release date.
apple tv looks interesting though.
MikeP
The iPhone looks great, but Cingular?, no way. What I really wanted to hear was a larger screen iPod. When he first said it, I was YESSSS, but then, it is part of the iPhone, noooo. Come on Apple, give us an iPod with a larger screen, you can keep the phone!
http://is.derekpunsalan.com Derek
Overall I am DISAPPOINTED! No new computer hardware announcements? Blech. Way too much time spent on a handset that will surely deserve new feature and updates by June if it really wants to stay competitive.
Where was our .Mac update?! (Incidentally, I’m sitting here waiting for .Mac to update my NNW read status for items. Well over a minute for updates to come through.)
Enrique
BOOOO – I carry my cell phone with me everywhere I go. I ONLY carry my iPod with me when I want to listen to music!! Yo STEVE – How about an overhaul on the iPod? How about the iPhone minus the Phone part. I want a bigger screen, more storage, and a new UI!!
I don’t want to carry an iPhone with me everywhere, just like I don’t want to carry my iPod! GRRRR very disappointing – also – Mac Mini’s are still on Core Duo (not 2) ….what’s the deal with that??
mEis
a GSM phone? Edge while on UMTS I can surf at 3.6 mega?
What a HUGE disappointment.
Chad
I don’t know if I should get an iPhone in June or wait a few generations. Think about the people who grabbed the first iPod generation. Sure it was cool, but just a few short years later little girls with their pink iPhone Nanos will be mocking my bulky device.
David
Irony of the keynote: A new version of OS X was introduced today, but it was not 10.5 Leopard!
Enrique
Yeah, also a major BOOO on the Cingular only iPhone…. right now I don’t have much interest in this product; but i DEFINITELY don’t have any interest in switching out of my cell contract for a new iPod
mark
I’d much rather have seen some OS 10.5 stuff.
http://www.schildkroeter.de Jon
disappointed. Ok, a cell phone, and a really awesome one, but this is about new Macs, new OS! I expected different things…
Mike D
holy fanboy crapchute batman that phone is amazing! no seriously though all touch screen SUCKS I’ve used every phones that were just touch screen and it is NOT good for the average user. The features on it look cool though.. colors are nice multitouch is definatley cool. but no tactile feedback = bad
andrew
Well, I’m going to register as majorly disappointed. Two products were announced, the apple tv, and the iPhone. The apple tv had it’s place in the show, its a mac related connectivity extension, and it took up a brief amount of time at the show.
But then Steve talks about this iPhone for an hour and half, and it sounds awesome, but realistically, its a fringe market. Its $600 for the phone, and that is with a 2 year commitment to cingular. Its data driven like none other, which means you’re going to need a data plan, and even then they say they’re realistically shooting for 1% marketshare with the thing, which may even be a little bit of a reach. This is not accessible for a wide portion of apple’s audience, most wont be able to justify it. And to add insult to injury, Steve turns macworld into the iPhone song-and-dance show, with a mention of another mac periphreal. Lame to the max.
The iPhone also comes out in June, which begs the question, why the hell did he have to devote the entirity of macworld to it? The people who went there are, above all else, mac users. They’re there for the mac. They want to know about the major OS release that is coming this year, they want to see mac related developments. I understand that the iPhone is a big thing, and Apple wants to put its weight behind it. But the thing doesn’t come out until June, and it’s not going to be their bread and butter product. Lets focus a little on the mac platform here, especially given the venue.
As a mac user foremost, I’m kinda offended that Apple is deciding to devote vast company resources to fringe audience products. I love my iPod, but I don’t need it. I definitely don’t need an Apple phone. I do need my mac, though, thats the one thing where if Apple were to stop supporting Mac OS, I’d be out in the cold. I refuse to use Windows, and I dont like linux as a primary desktop OS. And I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way. I was excited about this show because theres a lot of cool stuff going on with the mac these days, and I was excited for some info on what is going on and what I can expect. Instead, I got literally nothing mac related. I’m bummed out, big time.
And now that “The first 30 years was just the beginning” tagline seems really really lame. Come on, the phone is great, but certainly its not deserving of a place higher than the Mac. Thats what concerns me the most, if Apple is thinking this way, then the mac is becomming a second-class product in their eyes, and that really concerns me.
http://thirdstring.com Kibby
I guess I was wrong, I want one.
Andrew Brough
Right forget all the iphone stuff, the biggest news was Apple Computer is no more and that everyones favorite computer company is now turning the corner after the first 30 years into the biggest consumer electronic company. Mass market appeal. Mass proffits ahead. Shall I buy Apple TV, and iphone or not? did I miss any new computers, or details on the next OS yes I did…do I need to change focus like apple yes. The best bet I would think to buy apple at the moment is shares!
MikeP
After watching the quick tours of the widescreen ipod features of the iPhone at apple.com, they absolutely HAVE to come out with an ipod only version of this thing. This new ipod will destroy all other ipods and mp3 players out there. Please, please, please Apple, please make and ipod only version of this!
Kevin
So, this is what we have so far…
A phone available in maybe three months (way more if you just signed a t-mobile 2 year agreement!) and an Apple TV in February. Well, lets just say in all worked up with no place to go. Had money set aside for iWork and iLife. I can go buy a Wii I guess…
David
Get ready for more lawsuits about scratches.
Sef
The iPhone is super-cool, but the wait until June will seem very long. The screen looks nice, interface is beautiful — this is Apple. A little pricey, but I would probably buy it.
The AppleTV looks cool, but not revolutionary.
Why no iLife/iWork update?
Why no Leopard news?
Jamie
I was very impressed with the phone. Wonder how they still call it iPhone? Not a Cingular fan though, but I’ll get one anyway. And just bought my Apple-TV. Headed for the Macworld show tomorrow . . . . .
http://prongo.com jeff
What about new Mac computers. just two products. can you use iTV to scan your computer harddrive? What about upgrades to OSX? I like the iphone.
http://www.digitalknk.com/ KNK
I am sure they are or already have plans for a iPod WS iPhone is the proof of this and I don’t see why they wouldn’t put a iPod WS out. The iPhone looking deeper into the specs looks like it is a open phone but with them partnering up with Cingular they have to puch they and avoid announce it’s a “go with anyone you want” phone … defeats the purpose of having a partnership then.
They went with Cingular because of numbers … 58 Millions customers … eagerly waiting to upgrade to new phones … that’s a huge market share for Apple basically handed to them by Cingular. Unfortunately you won’t find out if it is a open phone till they release it to the public or someone tries with another SIM Card provider.
http://www.republish.org dan
the phone: ubercool, let’s see when this is comint to europe
TV: cool but we knew it. just 40gig? whats that supposed to mean..
new airport extreme: super cool, with sharing of usb drives, just ordered one.
price drops in displays and airport express: welcome
d
http://www.republish.org dan
had rather seen more leopard stuff …. and an 12″ MBP
SMASH!!!!
ehh yea the iphone is extreamly cool… but i agree that i dont want to be the dude in 3 years with the 1gen ipod who hates that he got it but is trying to play it off liek its cool cuz hes old school…
i can picture getting the phone when it comes out and then since its allready been said on many news(and by tha ti mean rumor mills!) that htey are allready planing the 2nd gen of the iphone … and i totally beleive it the way apple pushes new products out…
im going to jstu wait for my 2 year contract to end with tmo and see where the iphone is then( till then tho i need to get rid of this effing sidekick3! i cant stand it.. i want me sk2 back damnit! )
but im disappointed no mention of new OS?
no new ilife?
i was expecting something new that would go along with the phone like a converting program or something? i dunno exactly what i was expecting but i was expecting something more then jsut iphone and itv… new ipod is a allways thats not new at all
OH! AND HAHA TO EVEROYNE WHO SAID IT WOUDLENT BE iPHONE!
what were you people thinking.. its apple.. they have the money to buy any name they want.. and if you wont sell… they will kill you…
haha i can see it now.. then putting a chemical on ther eproduct that kills people when they touch it… get it.. liek a poison..apple bahhh hahaha im funny!
TMTracy
I think the phone looks bad ass and I would totally buy it if it wasn’t Cingular. Too bad they didn’t take advantage of EVDO or something faster than EDGE. I doubt we will see a CDMA version of this. I really like the features of it though. I wish it wasn’t the highlight of the keynote, I would have seen more OS X stuff. Even a release date or SOMETHING!
AppleTV seems to require a widescreen TV, which kills it for me for now…but I wish there was a tivo type of thing on it to record directly to the hdd instead of just streaming things from your computer.
Davidlow
With all the things that were left out of today’s SteveNote, or that are simply not quite ready – iWork, iLife, Leopard, 12″ MacBook(?), Core 2 Duo MacMini, Adobe, other apps – Steve will be giving us another 90 minutes of RDF very soon, I’m sure.
I think we can expect a special event in Q2 2007.
http://www.lund-co.dk Hilmar
True true.. Not enaugh to satisfy my experctations….. But
The iPhone has OS X. And many features in the interface are amazing….. There is maybye a little “prewiew” of 10.5 there….
And anything more than a plain Front Row is cool for me… AppleTV is something I want!
Kevin
Let’s sum up.
We were expecting an iphone and a widescreen ipod.
Steve gave us… some kind of widescreen nano with phone capabilities (no 3G, low resolution camera, cingular only…).
For sure, the iphone makes the old ipod look ancient.
But wait…. they call it widescreen ipod??? 8gig? can’t be…. Are we contemplating the death of the 40/80 gig ipod? please no.
So why this keynote with “to be released” products?
Apple shares are flying now. Don’t look further. If they had waited for release date the shares would have dived.
It was now or never.
Conclusion?
For a second I forgot that there is no true widescreen ipod coming soon, that even though intel released the quad core and that dual hd (blue ray and hddvd) drive are now available, the mac pro is not getting upgrades… And osx? Oh well…
But man… that iphone looks ground breaking. I am hypnotised.
Tom D
Also keep in mind it’s not ony cingular and edge, it’s WiFi as well. TThe truth of he matter is we will be seeing more and more wide area networks providing signal for more cities, it’s just the path we are on. So now we have a ichat phone, and when your in a wifi area you will have the ability to chat or free, the next step, and a very small one is video phone calls from cell phone handsets. It’s less a phone really, and more a actual PC. Thik taking your home computer with you! Just a few little items here and there, like monitor out, larger hard drive, etc. etc. Does nobody else see this?
Ben Drucker
Yes, the iPhone is cool. But, where was Leopard, iWork ’07, iLife ’07, revised Cinema Displays, and a few other things? We got two product announcements. Yes, the AppleTV and iPhone were big. But exclude all other stuff? Why?
Jeffrey
I’m disappointed in the presentation. I was also hoping for more on Leopard and a true Video iPod. I’m disappointed that Cingular is the exclusive provider for the iPhone (not that i could afford it anyway).
HOWEVER
I agree that this technology (multitouch, wifi, bluetooth, etc) is something we’ll see very soon in upcoming versions of the iPod and this UI also might give us a sneak peak to Mac OS X 10.5. If the rumors of a mac tablet are true, then i wouldn’t be surprised to see the multitouch technology used in that.
javier
do you guys think they will eventually release a high capacity ipod-only touchscreen, widescreen device?
Alex
Well, I think that people who have a phone and just want a new ipod have been left out in the cold, I mean this is probably with a data plan too.
I’m shocked at all the negativity towards the announcement of the much rumoured iPhone. They’ve finally come along with what everyone’s been asking for plus it’s crammed full of features that should sell collectively for twice Apple’s asking price.
I’m thrilled but a bit sad it’s going to take so long for me to get one here in Ireland.
But fair dues Apple!!! Keep it up! This is a HUGE development.
Tom D
Checking out the Apple TV specs I see no svideo out. So I not only have to buy the Apple TV now, but I have to get a TV that has Compnent Video or HDMI? I wish I could Justify the expense :(
Suzuka
I was dispointed, iPhone and iTv are things I could care less for, I was looking for like Core 3 duos or some hardware or OS update
http://klogged.wordpress.com Kyle
I can’t understand anyone who says Steve spent too much time talking about the iPhone. “fringe market”??? Did you see the numbers on cell phones? All apple needs is 1% market share. They just released one of the most revolutionary devices made and you think they spent too much time on it?
This market is wayyy bigger than the iPod market, Apple will make a killing. I don’t care at all that we didn’t hear about Leopard or iLife updates…compareed to the iPhone it’s small potatoes.
http://deleted Andrew
Right, Steve released Stats on cell phones in general. You have to realize that the vast majority of that is tied up in the cheap gimme phones that come with a 2 year commitment, then you have a large number of people who will buy cool looking phones in a reasonable price range (the razr, i guarentee you the idiots i see yapping on those things haven’t the faintest clue what bluetooth is), and then you have the smartphones. To give you an idea of the smartphone marketshare, there were 19 million smartphones shipped in Q2 2006, or roughly 2% of the market. Now, its to be argued whether or not Apple will get people to “switch over” to smartphones, but I am highly skeptical. I dont think its the lack of features and “wow factor” that’s keeping people from smart phones, I think its the fact that they are simply too expensive to be accessible to most people.
As for why I’m disappointed, well, I never thought the idea of a phone was intelligent. The vast majority of people out there just want a phone to make phonecalls with, and will never have the desire nor need to ever seriously consider the iPhone. Lets take some of this awesome, cutting edge tech, and move it on over to the mac computers. Specifically the Macbook Pros, which would definitely benefit from a new enclosure design.
Tom D
WHY OH WHY DON”T THEY RELEASE THE KEYNOTE AS A VIDEO FOR DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WOULD BE SIMPLE DISTRIBUTION IN ITUNES AS A PODCAST OR A MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT WOULD BE BETTER THAN THE 10 FPS POS 320 X 180 (ONCE AGAIN I SAY) POS IMAGE THEY HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST FOR THOSE OF US NOT FORTUNATE (OR EMPHASIS ON FORTUNE) TO BE THERE OUR SELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hmmm, I thought yelling would make me feel better after being disconnected from their stream posted on the apple web site… but it HASN”T!!!!!
http://www.blueverticalstudio.com/ bv
looked pretty damn hot to me. i guess there’s no way to keep everyone happy. esp some of the bitchy mac-heads out there. ;)
i’m not concerned about iworks, iphoto or the next osx. they will do a top notch job at that.
i think what some people are missing was there was a relative window to create something this integrated… and i think they timed it right.
time will tell.
peace.
http://www.designwithoutsleep.com tollerton
I agree, with Tom D.
I want to watch the keynote address but there’s so much demand for it that I cant access it. They surely could have made an iPod Video compatible file via iTunes! I suppose it adds to the exclusivity that is Apple.
I agree with 90% of this page. Why was there not more concentration on Macintosh? I live in the UK, so it will be interesting how it will be priced.
I would have thought that there would have been a small iSight cam on the front which would work in the same way with iChat video conversations.
Thanks to Tom Dunmore for live blogging via his N80 (www.stuff.tv), I was refreshing my page every second!

does the multi touch remind anyone else of the minority report (the way you zoom in and out of pictures)
http://is.derekpunsalan.com Derek
Crave10, that’s the first thing that came to mind for me. Using your fingers to zoom. Could you imagine Apple coming out with an Apple display that provided that type of usability?
