10 fired for Wii peeing contest which claims one life

Recall the ridiculous “drink as much water as you can without visiting the bathroom” contest mentioned a few days back? Yes, the stupid contest which claimed the life of one woman due to circumstances involving hyperhydration or “water poisoning”. Well the NorCal FM radio station which held the contest fired 10 employees Tuesday including three morning DJ’s.

Contestants signed a wavier before taking part in the competition, but the winner of the game said participants were never alerted to the dangers. A listener who said she is a nurse called the show and warned the deejays on air of the risks of the game. Timoty O’COnnor, a personal injury attorney, called the waiver “Meaningless” and said the radio station still shares some responsibility.

Thoughts? Should the employee’s be held accountable beyond being simple fired from their jobs?

    Whoever it was that came up with the idea for the contest should have definitely been fired. I can’t really see that 10 employees should be held responsible. Entercom Communications (the parent company) should step up to the plate and provide some help for the woman’s kids and family.

    you can’t insure stupid people.. they always find a way to die..
    people should have enough brain, to decide what to do, and what not..
    and this is independent from any contest..

    The firings are nothing more than a political move to save the station’s face. 107.9 in Sacramento is like -the- teen radio station. If they get any serious blowback (which they will), they’ll see thousands of advertising dollars disappear.

    Just goes to show that the almighty dollar once again reigns supreme. Lucas and Mainy will surely find another gig soon.

    You know if the nurse went on air stating the risks involved, then the contestants also knew the risks involved. This is the U.S. so I am sure there will be years worth of lawsuits to come. But really I don’t think the DJ’s should take all the heat. I know the radio station fired them to try to save face. But beyond that, any lawsuits should go directly to the radio station.

    Ultimately, no one can really be charged with murder, as they only suggested this, and did not force the woman o do it.
