The key to getting the Amazon “Customer Vote” deal

Left feeling disappointed that you could not snag the $100 XBox 360 on Amazon a week ago? (Don’t worry Microcenter still has a good deal). Here are some ways that you could help increase you odds to get the $25 portable DVD player.

  • Don’t use a domain name: One of the problems were Amazons DNS servers were clogged, instead go in with an IP address such as:

    http://72.21.210.254/

  • Use a secure approach: Amazons SSL servers are not the same as their HTTP servers, resulting in far less traffic. Using HTTPS may be a lucky trick:

    https://www.amazon.com/

Good luck tomorrow, and start hitting reload at 10:55 EST.

Note to anyone who is interested in this deal and are going to use the secure method: the url is http://promotions.amazon.com/gp/holiday/cv/homepage/ref=cu_vo_peng_e/105-7448504-8432457

Dan linked to the product page of the product, not the Customer Vote page.

    Don:

The above link doesn’t work with https – or am I missing something?

Hmm, it seems that they don’t have a secure connection for this promotional deal. But if I were interested in one of these deals, I certainly wouldn’t be on the product page. I’d be on the link that they gave me, which is the customer vote special page, which doesn’t seem to be on the secure server.

Using the IP-based address is probably the best bet. Possibly looking into other IP addresses that might go to the same location would do good as well.

I tried the ip address method with the 360 deal but it also didnt work.

anyway good luck to you guys with future deals.

This blog entry doesn’t really matter any more, but thanks for the info anyways. Here’s why:

    * There is no more race to buy: the claim codes will be distributed only to randomly selected customers.
