Noodlesoft Hazel simplifies Folder Actions
How strange to stumble across such a utility when just a few days prior, I was scratching my head wondering why creating individual Folder Actions was so unintuitive. Noodlesoft’s Hazel provides a GUI for creating actions with the simplicity of creating filters in Mail.
Hazel works on whatever folders you tell it to, automatically organizing your files according to the rules you create. It features a rule interface similar to that of Apple Mail so you should feel right at home. Have Hazel move files around based on name, date, what site/email address it came from (Safari and Mail only) and much more. Keep your downloads off the desktop and put them where they need to be.
The utility is offered for $16 with a 14-day full trial period allowing users to decide for themselves whether such an app is worth the price tag. Anyone with a little time to whip up a few AppleScript’s will more than likely be dissuaded from taking out their wallet. On the other hand, anyone else who might be a little too lazy to learn for themselves may want to consider Hazel.
