Move over flying windows, check out Lotsawater!

Lotsawater

Wow, wow, wow. Sure, the Flying Toasters screensaver is classic and should be on everyone’s computer, but check out Lotsawater (OS X only). This screensaver is stunning. Grab a free copy on MacUpdate [developer] and drop into your ~/Library/Screen Savers folder. Personally, I recommend using the following settings: Detail: 3, Accuracy: 2, Slow Motion: 5, Rainfall: 5, Water depth: 4, and Dimming: 5.

The screensaver even supports multiple displays ensuring the raindrop ripples look unique and realistic. The screenshot above doesn’t do this download justice. Check it out yourself and report back with your thoughts of whether or not this screensaver tops the rest.

Warning: Lotsawater will tax your computer resources. Make sure to tweak the settings if you run a lower powered laptop / desktop.

Thanks for posting this! I never thought I would use anything other then the RSS Visualizer but this is way too cool to not use.

I have to admit I’ve never seen the point in using the RSS saver. If the screensaver comes on, that usually means that your computer is idle and that you’ve walked away from the screen (missing whatever feeds are being updated). The text effects are great, but I’ve never seen the value using it.

I never thought I’d use anything other than that Fenetres Volantes ( http://www.objective-cocoa.org/fenetresvolantes/en/download.html ) screensaver, but this looks absolutely terrific!!! I love the posts you make about small mac add-ons and such. keep it up

I’ve been using this screensaver for a while already… I just hate it doesn’t go softly when you go back to work. Fenetres Volantes had a nice “windows, come back” effect… this screensaver should have a fade effect when you move the mouse again…

    RE: RSS Visualizer

It’s not so useful as an RSS reader but out of all the other choices it is just so nice to look at. One time that I do read it is when I am about ready to fall asleep and my Macbook is sitting on my nightstand next to the bed, I will run it and read it while drifting off. It is also very impressive looking when showing it off to the uninitiated as well.

well, it sounds great, is there anything remotely similar for windows? (I use w$ not by choice, but because of the thinness of my wallet ^.^, most of the time i use Ubuntu)

There are so many Windows options of screensavers it’s difficult to wade through the choices in order to find something with similar functionality. If I run across anything, I’ll make sure to share.

This is awesome. I rarely use screensavers, but I think I’ll stick with this until either 1) I become bored with it, or 2) I find something better.

amazing really is, my new favorite screensaver.

  • carl

is anyone else having trouble with using a costome image

  • Jeffy

They should make a touchscreen version :) Make the water move to your touch…

  • Justin

It gives new meaning to liquid crystal display :D

  • Cell

Now if they could make it so that it responds to the movements of your Macbook motion sensor, THAT would be seriously cool…
