Do you need or want the fancy aero “Glass” UI? How about BitLocker? Volume Shadow Copy? SuperFetch?

If you plan on buying Vista out of the gate, this guide is a MUST!

    you only need to get (notice how i dont say buy), vista ultimate and done, or if youre tired of windows, i suggest a mac or ubuntu, or unix, or the typewriter…

    Just get a Mac, you get all these features and more in just the same edition! Apart from OS X Server, everyone uses the same copy

    looks like I’ll be slapping ole vista home premium on the macbook pro and calling it a day… maybe ultimate on the desktop… as for the mac fans who are claiming too many options are a hassle and suggest *nix…. yea right… don’t get me wrong, love me some *nix in various flavors, but if a common PC user is stumped by a 5 column color coded table I can’t imagine trying to explain compiling NIC drivers…

    I haven’t really figured out the difference between XP Home and XP Pro yet…
    Thank fully now we can be one step ahead. :)

    It’s about networking & system tools mainly. Home won’t let you join a domain. Also I don’t think XP home has disk management util like xp pro that let use convert disks (eg basic to dynamic to run software raid), and partitioning tools. THere are some other small differences.

    Clams: You dont have a Remote Desktop and IIS in XP Home for instance. There are some more limitations i dont know of my head :)

    Bye

    You don’t NEED Vista at all……. XP Pro works for me…

    @Jerry

    That’s what I’ve been thinking the last couple of months. With microsoft, buying their new products usually turns out to be a disaster. (Thinking of the ever-so-terrible Zune, which has been destined to failure the day it launched).

    XP actually works after the millions of patches released….i’m thinking XP for the next 6-12 months. What is the HUGE amazing feature that Vista has that XP does not?

    I’m such a diehard bleeding-edge application tester myself, I have to have Vista as soon as possible. =)
