Revisting the past with the present

The idea was to revisit historic photograph locations and take identical photographs, as if the camera never moved and the world changed around it. It’s a little more difficult than I expected due to variations in lenses, inaccessibility of locations and a lack of constant markers. Still all of these are close to correct(some are better than others). To get even these poor shots I had to overlay old maps to decipher the locations of buildings long gone.
Not exactly groundbreaking as the effect is easily reproduced with old + new video footage, but interesting nonetheless. Reproducing the same effect using a still camera on location definitely poses its own challenges. Check out these ghostly image overlays which provide visitors with an opportunity to view the past vs. present a convenient “time travel” slider.
