Today Google has launched a mobile phone application of their GMail service, specifically designed for easy and direct access to your email.

Gmail for Mobile Devices is a free, downloadable Java application that will work on any Java-enabled mobile device. Unfortunately this leaves T-Mobile and Verizon users out in the cold.

Err… T-Mobile doesn’t disable Java. The only phone I know of that doesn’t have Java are the Windows phones.

Constant permission requests for outbound connections is almost annoying enough to stop using the app. Permissions were set to proper settings ala Google Help, yet annoying prompts continue.

What did you test it on D?

Works with my Google hosted domain.

    Wahoo!

Got the app up and running on the 700p. Not too shabby of a mail client if the prompts are ignored. Kind of disappointed with the soft menu items. Pressing the Home button on the Treo will open a message, yet none of the other three Treo buttons do anything.

So you have Java on the Palm?

Have this running on my nokia 9300 using t-mobile

java apps (gmail, gmaps, MGTalk) ask at startup if they can connect, it doesn’t bother me to hit yes one time…

I’m using it on my Verizon Blackberry just fine.

    Dan, yup. Went here: http://www.palm.com/us/support/jvm/

Load the version for the Treo 650. Restart. Revisit the Gmail App page. Kinda clunky.

Got it working here on my PPC6700 (Window Mobile 5). I already had JVM installed when trying Google Maps, so installation was a breeze. I like it alot. It takes a few more steps to access than just going to IE. But the interface is so much better, and its easy to view attachments as well!
