DRM Dumpster – Automating the un-DRMing process

One of the oldest tricks in the book for unlocked DRM locked audio files purchased off of the iTunes Music Store is to rip the audio tracks, then re-import the files back into iTunes. A tedious yet highly accurate method of unlocking files which you should have free-access to for purchasing. However, as previously stated, the task is incredibly tedious and time consuming. Fortunately, there are little conveniences such as the DRM Dumpster which automate the process:

DRM Dumpster is free software. However, it takes a lot of work to produce software like DRM Dumpster so if you can afford it we ask that you please donate. Your donation gives us the computers and the time that we need to make this software for your. Please support us if you can.

The OS X application will seek out any locked files in your music library, burn them to disk, the re-import the files with little input required from the user. Completely legal, complete convenience, complete control.

Stumbled upon your website just last week I was looking for something to do just this with little success, thanks for the link and thanks for the site!

Cool, thanks. Automation makes the task kinda fun rather than a huge drag (I REALLY resent not being able to just move around music that I just paid to download!).

    AAC?

  • Hybrid

This means re-encoding an already encoded track to AIFF and then back again to MP3/AAC?

My guess is that it really effects the sound quality of the song. Sure it is DRM free but of a porer quality.

    Or not?
