Can the Zune reviews get any worse?
The barrage of negative reviews concerning the Zune media player continue find their way on to the internet. Despite the fact that Dan and I have yet to toy with long-term test units, the current state of the internet concerning the device is hard to ignore. Take for example a recent piece from the Chicago Sun-Times (Technology) titled Avoid the loony Zune. Based on the article snippets sampled below, does the Zune have a standing chance from disappearing from the music player market within the next year?
Yes, Microsoft’s new Zune digital music player is just plain dreadful. I’ve spent a week setting this thing up and using it, and the overall experience is about as pleasant as having an airbag deploy in your face. [...]
The setup process stands among the very worst experiences I’ve ever had with digital music players. The installer app failed, and an hour into the ordeal, I found myself asking my office goldfish, “Has it really come to this? Am I really about to manually create and install a .dll file?”
But there it was, right on the Zune’s tech support page. Is this really what parents want to be doing at 4 a.m. on Christmas morning?
That snippet alone is proof enough that come this holiday season, parents should definitely consider the technicalities that their children may face while setting up their freshly opened music players. Dan and I will reserve our personal opinions after giving these players a thorough run.
