T-Mobile launches GSM / Wifi network

Exciting news today as T-Mobile officially launches their dual-network GSM / WiFi service (otherwise known as UMA) for customers. Having the opportunity to test this service first hand during the beta period, I can attest to the convenience of the service over standard phone-lines / cellular plans.

The idea is simple – utilizing a unique UMA handset, customers can transition from T-Mobile’s standard cellular network to a WiFi signal without being disconnected from their current call. The idea to extend network converge via WiFi in areas that have difficulty receiving a standard carrier signal.

Interested? Check out T-Mobiles site for more information. T-Mobile’s initial handset offering includes the Nokia 6136 and Samsung T709. The Samsung being the more performance oriented handset with Nokia being a more affordable solution for getting on T-Mobiles GSM / WiFi network.

    i dont fully understand this thing.. like i know what it does and how it works.. but waht id otn know is .. will it be for all phones or just some phones

    liek a long itme ago with the “leaked” sidekick3 plans it said UMA sidekick

    now would that be something they would just be able to update.. or would that be something they would sell a different sidekick to make more cash??

    i know when i called and complained about the coverage of my sidekick she said by the end of the year the covereage will be a lot more so just hold out and dont cancle my contract
