Strip iTunes encryption with *cough* iMovie

Seidai Software worked out a few kinks and managed to find a way to strip iTunes DRM from iTunes Music Store purchases using Apple’s own iMovie software. Hitting Apple back with a little of its own medicine. I love it.

Check out the small utility and System Preferences tweak requirement on Seidai Software and start stripping your music free of any DRM.

Yay, this re-encodes the music file. This can be done with any number of audio programs out there, by redirecting the audio output from iTunes.

Things in the past such as JHymn, and currently myFairTunes and QTFairTunes are great because they don’t have to re-encode the data at all.

Will using this program to reencode the files result in a loss of quality?

Haven’t tried this, but I had success just burning my downloads to a CD, and then reimporting them, within iTunes, when I needed them in a non-protected format. This is a cool idea, though.
