OS X: Create playlists based on BPM

OS X users will rejoice and jump in joy for this little gem by Potion Factory. Tangerine (beta) will rummage through your iTunes library – quite quickly might I add – and analyze the BPM for individual tracks. Why is this so exciting? Because you can now generate playlists based on the tempo of tracks.

We’re proud to announce the beta release of Tangerine, our third application. Tangerine lets you easily create playlists with upbeat music, or playlists for relaxing. It does that by analyzing the BPM and beat intensity of the songs in your iTunes library. As mentioned in the previous post, it analyzes the songs blazingly fast to the tune of more than 3 per second (on an 1.83 Ghz Core Duo iMac).

Now you can create appropriate playlists for all sorts of activities – running, sleeping, ergh… romantic evenings. Simply run Tangerine, allow the app to analyze your tracks, then import the new data into your iTunes library. How much easier can it be?

Oh, god damn you guys. This blog keeps giving me more and more reason to buy a Mac. Someone needs to give me a few thousand dollars.

Thia sure beats the old programs that required you to click a button along with the beat to determine the BPM. That was fine for one album, but 10,000 songs? Psh.

    Anyways, great find!

Does this read id3 tags or something, because a large amount of my songs are marked as 0 or -1. Still pretty decent, looks and works great but I didnt have too much of a personal use for it.
