The people vs. Royal Mail

The battle has just begun. It seems that Royal Mail makes millions from sending anonymous advertising material, aka junk mail, door to door and the people started complaining.

Day 1: In response a noble postman responded by sending out his own leaflet containing information on how to stop receiving junk mail. After getting dozens of application forms from residents to stop mailshots coming in their letterbox, Royal Mail big wigs investigated and suspended the Postman. It even looks like the fella might get the sack over “alleged misconduct”. [link]

Day 2: Households were about to revolt against the mail distribution gaint, until it sent out information on how to “de-junk your life”. But then sent a notice to possible applicants, that stopping junk mail also stops government publications from being received. Royal Mail claims that it is unable to seperate the unaddressed mail, regardless if it comes from vendors or the government. The people feel that this is blackmail, as these public notices are very important. [link]

This whole chain of events reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer tries to opt out from receiving mail period.

yeah in london you get a hell of a lot of junk mail. The thing is that they even deliver the mail at the weekends, so bright and sunny on a sunday morning you get a big pack of letters about things that you never want. Sometimes they disguise them inside official looking envelopes in order for you to open it and spend more time over them.
