First 3 finalists announced for My Dream App

Mr. Ryu, the man behind the latest Mac Community development craze – My Dream App – recently informed the world of the competitions first three finalists. For those unaware of the background behind My Dream App, check out my brief review of the contest.

Essentially, the contest pits OS X enthusiasts against one another in an attempt to back the best new software to be developed for the OS X community. The first three finalists thus far have presented an interesting collection of possible applications:

  • Herald, by Bogumil Giertler: Herald is an RSS feed aggregator that lets users package news from their favorite sites sharing a topic together as a virtual newspaper, with different sections of the newspaper representing separate RSS feeds.
  • Stick-It, by Anders Melin: Stick-It is a modern update to the Stickies apps of old. Forget about their current implementation. Stick-It attempts to recreate how we really use stickies, by allowing users to stick relevant notes all over OS X, whether it is on apps, within menus, or attached on the desktop.
  • Desktop Wars, by Andrew Wilson: Desktop Wars brings the battlefield to your desktop, and is one of the few activities where the procrastinators win. With Desktop Wars, control armies of troops via mouse controls, voice commands, or even by shaking your motion-sensing laptop, and play several modes including capture the base and skirmish.

My personal favorite of the three? Desktop Wars by Andrew Wilson. Keep an eye on My Dream Apps as your next piece of OS X software may be the result of the Mac user across the hall, down the street, or across the globe.
