“Crocodile man” Steve Irwin killed by a stingray

rip steve irwin

The crazy nature television hosts who swim with sharks, wrestle crocodiles, and pet killer cats like 2 month old puppies are supposed to be invincible to such freak accidents. RIP Mr. Irwin. Your tenacity and yearning to educate and entertain will never be forgotten.

THE Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead. He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It appeared that he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest, Queensland Police Inspector Russell Rhodes said.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that’s when it occurred.

Crocodile Dundee had nothing on the real crocodile man Steve Irwin [official website].

It stung him because he didn’t give it his baby, like he did with the crocodile. The stringray thought, “I’m gonna show you, Steve!” and stung him in the chest to show him a lesson; perhaps.

  • mackmack

that sucks. I know Aussie’s would make fun of the guy for being over the top, but he was a good guy. Trying to help animals, funding zoo’s and educating. We could use few more Steve Irwins in this world and about 2-3 million less selfish greedy assholes who only care about what car they are driving and how much money they make.

    good man.

  • dov

I saw the Yahoo headline yesterday & expected to see he died tripping down a few stairs in his house or something. Irony w/ all the crocs and snakes…

Wonder if it’s time for the South Park episode then?

To his family and friends this was a horrific day, but out of that horror came a man that you should all be proud of. For what he has done. The whole world thanks him, I thank him and i thank his parents for bringing this passionate man into the world, he showed us that the animals in this world deserve our help.

I’m sorry to hear that . The news of your death was a terrible shock to me .

    Mr.irwin “You are our hero”

    Rest in peace…

  • Gerry

So who is really surprized? The guy was nuts and all of his so called ‘mates’ should have told him so a long time ago but they were too busy making money off this mentally ill person. I have lived near the ocean all my life and everyone here knows that sting rays deliver a mean and painful strike. An 8 foot ray is certainly able to kill a man.

    Waltzing Matilda

That beautiful song was Australia to me
before “Crocodile Hunter” aired on TV

He was crazy, brash, exuberant and fun
I never saw another do what he’d done

A pioneer in his field, a man with fight
he brought a gorgeous Australia to sight

So full of dedication, enthusiasm and grit
for the sanctity of wildlife–his passion was lit

For the land and the animals his purpose was filled
yet I think too soon his bright, helping spirit was stilled

He cried for that which moved him and all that he loved
for the critters, his family on earth and his mother above

When I think of his passing I can scarce breathe
while I pray for his loved ones, as the world grieves

As tears fill my eyes so that I can not see
would someone play “Waltzing Matilda” for me

…Thank you Steve Irwin, and family…

  • http://n/a Holly

Some of you are so disrespectful!!!!

This man did what he did because he knew these animals so well and was doing it for such a long time. He knew the dangers and even made comments in interviews that if he would ever die, he would want it on tape. He knew there would be a possiblility because animals can be unpredictable and if they feel the least bit intimidated that they could strike and kill someone. He knew the croc better than any animal and that was why he felt that he could have his child in his arms while being around them. He knew what to expect with them and that is why it wasn’t a croc and it was a stingray. Heck, it could have been any other animal, but I feel that he knew what he was up against when it came to crocs.

Please have a little more respect for the dead.

  • Lolly
