WinSnap – I’m almost envious

I’m almost envious of this tiny little screenshot utility for Windows users. While I am altogether too cheap to pay for a fancy screenshot solution on OS X – I stick with the standard CMD+Shift+3 or 4, I’m jealous to see that a comparable utility on the Windows side is being offered free of charge.

WinSnap does away with the hard-edged lines of standard Print Scrns and adds a noticeable amount of style to boring screenshots.

It can easily capture windows of non-rectangular form with the background of your choice, automatically perform simple canvas transformations and coloring effects, add professional smoothing shadows in Photoshop style and more. Also, WinSnap supports variety of image formats and provides advanced auto-save features.

Noticeable advantages to using WinSnap over all else? WinSnap allows users to follow a windows smooth corners rather than doing the ‘ol 90 degree right angled white background on curves.

You can get the rounded corners of a window with out the rest. See if this does what you want.

    Screen Shots to Desktop
    Command + Shift + 3 —> Full/Whole Screen Shot
Command + Shift + 4 —> Partial Screen Shot / Brings up Cross hairs to select area

    Screen Shots to Clip Board
    Command + Control + Shift + 3 —> Full/Whole Screen Shot
Command + Control + Shift + 4 —> Partial Screen Shot / Brings up Cross hairs to select area

    The Window or Menu option
To take a picture of a window, make sure part of the window is visible
To take a picture of a menu, click to get the menu to come up

    Initiate Command + Shift + 4 or Command + Control + Shift + 4
Press the ‘Space Bar’… the cross hairs should change to a camera. move the mouse around till it is highlighting the window or menu you want a picture of and the Click.

Note: you can press the space bar to toggle between cross hairs and camera mode.

Note2: you can press the escape key to exit from this mode.

Hope that helps a little… in case anyone did not know. There are a lot of other short cuts built into the OS that are undocumented [though these are documented in help]. My favorite useless to most ones are…
    Cmd + Shift + Y –> Stickies
    Cmd + Shift + B –> Bluetooth File Exchange
    Cmd + Shift + J –> JavaBrowser

    Have fun.
