Quick, hand me that hammer, I have a grenade

Maybe someone can explain the thought process for the following scenario:

A Brazilian man died on Tuesday when he tried to open what police believe was a rocket-propelled grenade with a sledgehammer in a mechanical workshop on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.

I refuse to believe that the scenario presented failed to have any other story behind it. A man attempting to scrap metal from an unexploded grenade using a sledgehammer? There have to be other circumstances that weren’t presented here.

    In Vienna (Austria) were a case, where a man let his wife hold a hand-granade while he was sawing. She lost her life, he lost his hands AFAIR.

    Sometimes, people just want to get a darwin award, jeah.
