Do wa “Ditty” “Ditty” dum diddle GONE!

Another one bites the dust. If you had any interest in Dell’s DJ Ditty digital music player, you won’t find it promoted on Dells website. It’s vanished, in its place are the Sandisk and Creative models. And there is no mention of the Ditty on the MP3 comparison guide designed to advise customers what to buy. Don’t get us wrong you can still purchase it, but you have to click a bit on the site, fueling rumors that the product is on its last legs.

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, the DJ Ditty was Dell’s Flash-based MP3 player designed to compete with the iPod shuffle.

This could the the first steps of Dells official exit out of the MP3 player market which started when they killed the DJ in February.

The trail is slowly being littered with iPod competitors that just didn’t cut it. But how much longer do you think the iPod can remain king? Anyone remember the Apple II story?

as a recent convert from an Olympus m:robe MR-100 (5gb mp3/wma player) to The Real Thing, I have to say the ipods really are the best thing around… now with out-of-the-box winamp integration (and a plugin available for older versions of WA), I don’t see how it could get any better

being an mrobe user for over a year, I’ve heard ‘is that an iPod’ more often than ‘is that an mp3 player’?

competitors – face it, you’ve been beat. unless you come up with something Way Cooler Than An Ipod, there’s no catching up…

apple is so stupid, people will soon get sick of being locked down and will be eager to switch just as soon as someone has something better to offer. not only a better player, but a better digital download solution. competitors have some catching up to do before this happens.
