Flickr no more? Free Zooomr Pro accounts!

For those that were a bit apprehensive concerning the thought of purchasing a Pro account for Flickr, yearn no more as Zooomr recently announced a mighty tasty deal.

What? You’re giving out free Pro accounts to bloggers? Why in the heck would you do that? Do you hate money or something? No, not at all. We’re doing this because we love you, you silly blogger. Besides, uhhhh, you’re influential and most likely someone that people look up to.

That’s right, Zooomr is giving away Pro accounts to bloggers who share a llttle link love. More specifically, bloggers who fulfill the requirements of a) registering, b) posting about Zooomr, c) include a hosted Zooomr image, and d) trackback to the original post will be rewarded with a free (as in zero ‘dinero’ coming out of your pocketo) Pro account. No upload limits, etc, etc.

For those that are scratching their heads thinking “why would anyone consider Zooomr over Flickr?” Relax, ignore the fact that the young man running the show behind the Zooomr curtains is hell bent on pushing updates out the door to surpass the offerings provided by Flickr. Need an example? How about trackbacks for public images? That’s right, find out who’s blogging about the proof of your drunken ordeal last month by following trackbacks left by bloggers.

    Woah! I’m a pretty hardcore Flickr user and some of my pictures get tons of viewership. Having trackbacks on them would be awesome! Time to try Zooomr…

    I’m not completely sure as to how the upgrades work. I’ve been in contact with someone at Zooomr awaiting their response. I assume they’re going to contact bloggers using the trackbacks.

    Hey Derek, thanks for posting about Zooomr!

    I don’t exactly have it automated yet, but I’m thinking of having some sort of automated email follow. We’ll see how it all works. Until then, I hope everyone can enjoy the free pro accounts.

    As far as I can tell, no, Zooomr does not have sets. Maybe the Pro accounts do? I haven’t seen them yet. On a somewhat related note, is anyone else bothered by the login requirements. I initially registered with an openID username / password. That thing is completely worthless. Zooomr never keeps me signed in, and each time I visit that site, I have to re-login wasting my time when I am sitting in front of my own computer & browser.

    All I’ve noticed is a little icon that says “pro” next to my name at the “wecome mat” (and a transfer limit boost). Maybe I’m retarded though.

    apparently when zooomr gets upgraded to version 2 (in the next few weeks?) there should be a bunch of new things added.

    i got the free ‘pro’ thing aswell, and am not impressed… v2 better be an improvement or i’ll ask for my money back.

    I’m eagerly waiting for the 2.0 release. I bet the pro account will be excellent. I’ve heard so much of hype, and with Thomas Hawk on that side, that’s proof enough.

    Hey Derek, thanks for posting. Yes, V2.0 coming out later this week will have lots of fun new features. Sets, groups, better geotagging, etc. But we are not going to stop at V2.0. Kris is one of the most talented developers I’ve ever met. When he implemented the trackbacks feature originally he did it in less than an hour while I was chatting with him on Skype. His committment to feature development and his skill in executing are two of the biggest reasons why I went to work with him.

    After 2.0 we will keep pushing and come out with even more features. Zooomr is dedicated to building the best photosharing site in the world, but we are a very small team right now so it will take a bit of time to get every bug worked out. We will start a group with one of our new groups that we launch on Friday where people can submit ideas on hwo we can make Zooomr better and better. We welcome your response and response from bloggers everywhere.

    We are especially interested in building in more key blogging features like trackbacks and other tools.
