Thief sues for ‘Emotional Distress’ after failed hiest

You’re working at a store, minding your own business, working your 9 to 5, when a guy comes in waving his semi-automatic pistol and demanding cash. What do yo do? You beat the crap out of him right? If you manage to gather the courage of course.

That’s exactly what these two auto parts store workers did. They controlled their aggressor with a pipe and took his gun away from him. The burglar escaped, only to be arrested a week later.

Not managing to get his money one way, the opportunist thief decided to sue for emotional distress “claiming they committed assault and battery and intentionally inflicted emotional distress.”

Let this than be a lesson for you. If unlike most people who would try to find ways to save their skin when faced with a semi-auto, you decide to try to intentionally inflict emotional distress upon your oppressor, think again! Yes, that’s the first thing that would come into my mind, making his life a living hell.

Should congress release any legislation about thief handling-etiquette?

This will never stand trial. Even if it did, both defendents could counter-sue for the exact same claim.

There really should be a law preventing anyone from suing for an event that took place during a crime *HE* committed.

“So hmmm yeah I was burning down this house and the gas exploded in my face. Let’s sue the oil company for making exploding gas!”

Can you do that, can you attack a fleeing suspect? I mean, it’s no longer self defense if you put yourself back into danger.

On top of that, I used to work for a parts store, in Rochester no less, back when I was in high-school. We got held up a few times and I never thought of risking my neck for the stores money. Getting a pistol in my face during the robbery was enough to say a few grand isn’t worth a life. Eff that.
