Strap-on mono wing for Military special forces

If only Icarus were alive today, what a fine day it would be. Military forces will now swap giant parachutes for strap-ons:

strap on wings

Elite special forces troops being dropped behind enemy lines on covert missions are to ditch their traditional parachutes in favour of strap-on stealth wings.

The lightweight carbon fibre mono-wings will allow them to jump from high altitudes and then glide 120 miles or more before landing – making them almost impossible to spot, as their aircraft can avoid flying anywhere near the target.

These wings definitely have their advantages allowing soldiers to glide up to 120 miles with 200 lbs of gear. It’s only a matter of time before these strap-on wing flying soldiers will have miniature missles strapped to their elbows.

Nifty. I suppose it’s real carbon fibre too, Not Like that Sony VAIO laptop fiasco I heard about ( I think from here actually) recently… :P

How do you land? I don’t see any wheels. A belly flop woud hurt for sure!

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that these aren’t an alternative to parachutes, that they let you fly a far distance w/out opening your parachute, but you do have to eventually. I don’ t think anyone’s successfully been able to consistently survive jumping out of an airplane with out a parachute. the idea here, i believe is so that planes dropping them off don’t have to get within range, thus making it easier for them to not be spotted.

There is a chute for landing.
