New York, NY: Most courteous place on the planet?

Do ay New Yorkers care to chime in concerning this recent “courtesy” study conducted in their home town? Apparently New York is the most courteous city on the planet.

The Big Apple just got a lot shinier. New York City is the most courteous place on the planet, according to a survey released yesterday by Reader’s Digest. And at the bottom of the heap lurks Bombay. India’s financial capital has bombed — deemed the very rudest.

The publication staged a global civility derby among 35 cities around the world, using undercover reporters to conduct more than 2,000 simple courtesy tests among unwitting passers-by, clerks and the proverbial men — and women — on the street.

I would have assumed that will all the hustle and bustle of the business world in NY that the results for this so called courtesy test have different results. I guess no one is too busy to show a little courtesy to passerby’s in the city?

This seems like a very hard study to conduct impartially. For instance, I imagine the way people react depends highly on who was asking the questions. If somebody who looked like a Bombay native conducted the “courtesy tests” in NYC, I doubt they’d receive the same response (statistically speaking) as a person who looked like a NYC native. And visa versa.

As a NYC dweller, I have to say F this. And those damn people how responded to those surveys are p*ssys!

    :P

I’m just kidding. I will always take time out of my day to point tourists in the wrong direction.

Lmao. Hey I do that also! Actually, it just so happens that I draw a blank whenever tourists ask me what way to travel in order to find the nearest Seattle fireplace mantle junk store.

I frequently drive off while give directions

“yea you go down there… then take your third left… go for like 2 blocks … oh its a green light…. see ya…”

In a city like New York there is too much stimulation for everyone to nod and say hi to every stranger they come across. Yet in NY, if you stop to ask directions, you will get them, and once they are understood the person giving them will continue about their business without waiting for a thank you. The only way to survive all that excess stimulation.

New York is a pile of garbage.

Morons who live there are over zealous about their over populated joke of a commercial they call a town. They love it so much because they are stuck there in the tiny microcosm or universe of a few city blocks. Dont own a car, work at the local sweaty pizza place and cause crime all night long.

Too stupid to realize they are being taken for their tiny wages already and the city is just one billboard. An ugly one at that.

Woah, Nic, calm down there hoss
I personally don’t live in NY, but I love it none-the-less. NY is definitely not garbage by any stretch of the word. Maybe big cities aren’t your thing, but don’t trash cities like NY when you obviously have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about.
“Dont own a car, work at the local sweaty pizza place and cause crime all night long.”… Woah.. talk about stereotyping. I seriously hope you don’t actually believe that filth that’s spewing from your face-hole. Personally I think it’s good not to own a car. If I lived somewhere where I didn’t need one, I would walk as much as possible. But have you seen NY streets?? To say that no-one has a car is just stupid. Yes.. People walk… what’s wrong with that, And what’s with the causing crime all night bit?? Do you actually think that??? You, sir, are an ignorant-racist-shit
    I hate ignorant assholes

I was suppose to be in new york city this week, but i totally didn’t feel like paying 50 bucks more cause i didn’t get it in January. I think the meanest city IMO is San Francisco…”Speed limits are for newbie drivers. Move outta the way, f*g!!”

The bay area is the greatest place to live in the states. A technology and idea hot bed and perfect mix of cultures and races.

Calling me a racist? LOL, thats funny.

    Nic,

Learn to punctuate. Learn grammar. Oh, and all of us here in New York–AND in San Francisco–have fucked your mother.

    Best,

  • Patrick

I love NY & I agree that it is one of the more courteous places on earth.
Sure there is more crime there, but there are a lot more people there too!

Roger, you summed up my thoughts into a pretty little package with a bow on top.

Nic, out of curiosity, where do you live? I would also like to give you the chance to explain you dislike of NY, with valid reasons. I am not saying NY is perfect, but nothing you said has to do with courtesy. Looking forward to your comment.
