EA and Microsoft … shame on you!

If you play games made by EA or use a PC running Windows you know ALL ABOUT PATCHES. From updates to fixes, patches have become a part of all of our lives. Well the Oracle CSO thinks thats a bad bad thing.

“What if civil engineers built bridges the way developers write code?” she asked. “What would happen is that you would get the blue bridge of death appearing on your highway in the morning.”

I partly agree with this, EA is infamous for pushing up release dates and launching buggy games plagued with problems that require usually 3 to 4 patches to get some of their games running like they should… [cough] battlefield 2. [cough]

Another well known company would be M$… but I won’t even go into that.

On the other hand however, as a programmer and developer I know that no matter how much you plan out a project and cover your bases… there is ALWAYS something you didn’t foresee.

Chief Security Officer Mary Ann Davidson also mentions regulation of the industry…

Things are so bad in the software business that it has become “a national security issue,” with regulation of the industry currently on the agenda, she said. “I did an informal poll recently of chief security officers on the CSO Council, and a lot of them said they really thought the industry should be regulated,” she said, referring to the security think tank.

Lets think about this logically… are we sure we really want to get the government involved in the software we develop and use?

your thoughts?

    HELL NO!!!!

Oh please please please don’t let this happen. We might complain about computer software, but lets face it. Do we want it to turn into a FEMA meets DMV experience. I think not! Government regulation will only make our software more expensive and worse.

As with any government regulated industry, it will cost us much much much more to get our software groove on.

    I agree with everyone above…
All in all… regualtion is bad for industries!
