Digscape?

diggggg.jpg

Long time readers know my position on Digg and Netscape, however, I have to side with Digg on this. Netscape stole Diggs concept, design, well pretty much everything! As a website owner and operator the theft of concepts and content is a highly deplorable act, although it is not a crime it is just in horrible taste. Can you copyright, a system the users vote on stories to gauge popularity? No, but to have a huge conglomerate just rip off another is just sad. If you want to see what Netscape is up to just visit http://beta.netscape.com to see what all the ruckus is about. I’m sure with all the nagging Digg users will do, Netscape will change the page in no time.

Can’t you patent a model of operation, and apply that to how the website actually operates? I’m remembering how Netflix is basing its lawsuit against Blockbuster for patent infringement.

What else do you expect from Jason Calacanis? He’s the master of taking a concept and expanding it, and ruining it for everyone else in the process.

If you are upset about this then you shouldn’t be upset when someone is trying to crack down on pirated software. Stay consistent.

Naturally, this won’t succeed, as Digg is launching 3.0 it will keep it’s monopoly.
