Sickening description of a helpless journalists last moments

The following may be a little heavy for afternoon reading. The Times Online reports of the kidnapping and murder of Atwar Bahjat, a young female reporter from Iraq:

EVEN by the stupefying standards of Iraq’s unspeakable violence, the murder of Atwar Bahjat, one of the country’s top television journalists, was an act of exceptional cruelty.

Nobody but her killers knew just how much she had suffered until a film showing her death on February 22 at the hands of two musclebound men in military uniforms emerged last week. Her family’s worst fears of what might have happened have been far exceeded by the reality.

I’ll be honest in saying that my stomach was in knots after reading the reported details of the gruesome incident. I can’t image what the recorded video may have looked like.

I’d like to imagine I’m fairly jaded and I rarely see or read anything that disturbs me all too much, but this was terrible. My skin won’t stop crawling.

that was a little too heavy for afternoon reading.

    I’m glad I didn’t see the video.

My condolences to her family, may she rest in peace.

What needs to happen to the executioners is worse. When we get ahold of them, they need to be tortured and put through pain much worse than that reporter’s. Then they need to be disgraced in the worst way possible and left to die so their trip to Allah will be hell. May sound Brutal, but sometimes an eye for an eye is a great thing.

violence breeds violence….. but sometimes violence is like duct tape.. if it ain’t working… use more…. catch em and wreck em boys!

chad…? what? what are you trying to say?

About the article, thats terrible. I can’t even imagine what her familes/ friends are going through. I’ve still got this lump in my throat :S What a terrible way to die.

    Wow.

I think that Chad was pointing out that the sick nature of violence and terrorism requires that it continue in ever larger waves to acheive their intended shock value.

much like ripples in a pond, as they spread.

The question I have is how long until we stop it? Either hunt these people down and kill them, or wait until they attack your family.

I like Matt’s approach… the event should be pay per view, and the proceeds would go toward finding the scum.

Oh yeah… when these scumbags are finally captured, I volunteer to be the first to light their head on fire and attempt to put it out with an ice pick.

over and over and over again

Anybody wanna hold the lighter fluid?

My point was catching and killing them will only enrage the youth and families of those people much like what they do enrages us and breeds more hatred.

The only way to idealistically stop this would be to walk away and surrender, but we all know that is out of the question. And they too feel the same exact way. Also as we come to grips with the savage nature of them they must do more to achieve their shock value, …. we shock and awe with bombs, they do it with video tapes, murders, and threats.

There is no end to this, as long as 2 people disagree and both are closed minded to the fact that in some cases there just isn’t a right and a wrong, and/or that they are capable of being wrong, this will go on.

My comment about duct tape and violence was a bit of a twisted joke, but what I meant was if we haven’t scared them enough and pressured them enough to stop this (which is an unachieveable goal, think how you would react if Iraq took over america and told us how to be, we would of course lash out against them) and if they won’t come to a table and rationalize with us and they understand violence and fear, which they obviously do because they use it as a weapon themselves.

Then we need to become more violent and vigalent towards them, their supporters, and their hate breeding propaganda. The “catch em and wreck em” was me basically supporting our troops in being stuck over there but when they catch and …. well whatever they end up doing to these people, it will make it worth while. We should try to take more live prisoners, think what would have happened to their country if instead of putting sadam hussian in a suit and in a court room we excuted him on tape like they did this poor girl, then flew over their country with the good year blimp looping the video…. maybe we need to shock and awe them with their own tactics….

with that said, its sad… the war, the deaths, the innocent people being hurt and driven from their homes, our countries children dying, their contries entire population being hurt and killed…. its sad on both parts, but also understandable if you step back and view the situation from both sides of the fence.
