Teacher mistakingly uses 40mm round paper weight

A Ventura teacher severely injures a hand due to an exploding paper weight. On any other day I would find a story like this unbelievable at best. Unfortunately, today’s story is very much true.

Part of a teacher’s hand was blown off when a 40 mm round the instructor used as a paperweight on his desk exploded in his classroom.

Robert Colla struck the round with an object Monday afternoon while teaching 20 to 25 students at the Ventura Adult Education Center on Valentine Road.

Before anyone chimes in with the “he was stupid anyway for keeping a live round on his desk” statements, the teacher was unaware of the fact that the round was indeed live.
