MacMall selling iMac’s with Windows preinstalled

preinstalled windows

Apparently MacMall is using the current beta version of Boot Camp to rack up Apple hardware sales. Personally, I think MacMall should be a little more responsible and add a disclaimer stating the Boot Camp is beta thus software errors may occur.

Does anyone else think that this practice – of selling iMac’s with Windows preinstalled – is wrong? I can’t imagine the type of support customers will receive when they call in complaining about issues.

I don’t see any problems with that… If they don’t install it, someone else will… and problems aren’t really their fault…

it probably feels rather nice to have both systems running out of the box but, if you’re inexperienced and bought your mac based on, for instance, a virus-free computer experience, as you’ve always been told, and suddenly you find yourself having to deal with all that reality…

but, as far as i could tell from the product details (http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail~dpno~7040653.asp) they do warn about all the risk that comes with running windows on a mac.

i guess that, if you ask for the bundled version, you have an idea of what you’re getting into and, even if you don’t, the disclaimer on their page should give you plenty of warning.

(sorry) i just needed to add something: i’m a happy, happy, mac user.
i can see no reason why i should install boot camp and run windows.
there’s only one piece of software i need and can’t run on my trusty powerbook and mac support is promised this year (garmin mapsource).
i use the computer at work to do this and wait, patiently, for the mac version.

other than that i feel no need, for work or pleasure, to use windows.

I like it… I think the new computer users will like it too.

I was at compusa the other day buying some ram in their tech shop and they had a sign up announcing the dual boot and how they would be more than happy to sell you a copy of xp home and install it for you.

    Lame

What can I say; It gives me the opportunity to play games once in a while; My Primary OS is still Mac OS X. At my work; we offer an Add-On package; where we install WinXP on any intel mac.

If we don’t do it; our customers may do it themselves (either improperly, or they may buy WinXP off our competitiors. We can sell it, and we will. As a business it makes us money; We warn them it’s beta and that its a explicit possibility that it f*cks up, but most of them could care less.)
